Palazzo del Bargello dates back to 1255 A.D. and is one of the oldest buildings in Florence. It began its use as a museum in the mid-19th Century and houses mostly Tuscan Renaissance sculpture including works by Michelangelo, Cellini, Donatello and Giambologna. The bronze David by Donatello is the first freestanding sculpture to depict a nude male figure since Roman times. |
