Gay Pride Paris 1982
Introduction for Gay Pride Paris 1982
These photos were taken in Paris during the summers of 1982-1983. In the summer of 1982 I arrived in Paris expecting to rendezvous with my lover Paul Jenkins, who had been studying organ performance in London.
While having a coffee at Les Mots a la Bouche, the phone rang and the staff person announced the caller was looking for me. It was David Thorstad phoning from New York. After arsonists had torched the Boston building housing Gay Community News, Fag Rag, and Glad Day Bookshop, David was given the task of locating me in Europe to deliver the news.
Paul and I aborted our planned stay in Paris, and I returned to Boston to face the catastrophe. The next summer we returned to Paris and stayed for one month in a friend’s apartment. These pictures are therefore divided into two galleries, one for 1982, and one for 1983.
