Odd & Sometimes Hard to Believe Cultural Phenomena in the Philippines

Catholicism.  Holding Fast here in the Philippines. No shortage of absurd manifestations.  Custom made for the easily manipulated masses of poor people.  I can only wonder what “education” in the many Catholic schools and colleges amounts to.  How they teach science and superstition at the same time.  Is evolution even on the curriculum? A very smart move on the part of any religion.  Start the indoctrination as soon as possible.  Blend it in with low standards of reading (almost non-existent from my observation), writing and arithmetic and a smattering of other subjects that might qualify as “education”.

Seems to me that despite Lapu Lapu killing Magellan, his expedition somehow managed to plant the seeds that converted their native belief system(s) into a uniquely bizarre brand of Catholicism.  But then, the same can be said for the Catholic church in countries like Mexico and Brazil as well. Just blend the imported superstitions with the existing ones and it seems to work! Wasn’t it Alexander “the Great” who first practised that with the many different cultures he encountered during his “world conquest tour”?

The galleries start with religious based advertising. Many supposed “quotes” from the Bible.  Frankly it matters very little if in fact they are “biblical”. I remind the reader that translations also are an easy way of altering words and/or their meanings.
