Phallic Graffiti from Countries of the World
Introduction to Phallic Graffiti from Countries of the World
Certainly so much better to come across these inspired works of art rather than the endlessly boring and morbid looking so-called calligraffiti. Imagine if you can, the need, desire, and spark of transgression it takes for some young male to create these statements. When I see one, I sometimes feel that spark, a connection with the ‘artist’!
However there seem to be several types of phallic gaffitti images. The solo ‘cock only’ images – often attempting to capture the moment of orgasm & ejaculation. For the most part those are probably the work of younger males who have only recently gone through puberty and find it challenging and liberating to ‘leave their mark’ on a wall or other structure.
Then there are the images depicting sexual contact. Almost all are heterosexual and most seem crude, often cruel, and always ugly. The gay ones, of which there are very few, depict cocksucking. In contrast to the heterosexual ones, seem playful, with an element of artistic creativity.
They are usually found in places somewhat out of view. The ‘artist’ needed time alone & privacy to allow his creative juices to flow!
All but four of these images were taken in Italy and mostly in the 70’s and 80’s. I’m sure I’ll come across a few more as this project moves along. The countries so far: Italy, France, Morocco and Mexico, and Spain.
