A subject dear to my heart! Nothing quite like the reality of the street scene! After all, I had a stint or two at being some sort of hustler. As well as helping to make ends meet, it can give one the feeling of being needed and even desired, in an otherwise often vapid world. Of course the thing is, it more than helps to be psychologically mature – far beyond the actual game involved – to control the situation without sacrificing your humanity. And especially so, to know when to step away. I never really ‘set out’ to photograph people in the sex business, but my eyes are always open and sometimes a camera is around my neck.
