Introduction to: Philippine Eagle Sanctuary
The Philippine Eagle Sanctuary on Mindanao Island, the southern most land mass in the Philippines, was my primary reason for my visit. Once again, an extremely endangered species, the National Emblem of the country and one the three largest eagles in the world. It was a pleasant shock to observe the beauty and general setup of the sanctuary, in complete contrast to the rather dreadful Manila Zoo, one of the absolute worst zoological gardens I have ever laid eyes upon! Unfortunately all 36 of the birds are in cages and most of my images reveal the wire lattice work.
